Pocket ID ("we", "us", or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use the Pocket ID mobile application (the "App") on Android and iOS.
By using Pocket ID, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Information We CollectPocket ID is designed with privacy in mind. Most of your data is stored locally on your device and is not uploaded to our servers by default.
We may collect the following types of information depending on how you use the App:
a) Account Information (Optional)
If you choose to sign in using Google Sign-In or another supported authentication method through Supabase Auth, we may receive limited account information such as:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Your profile photo (if provided by your account)
- A unique account identifier provided by the authentication service
This information is used only to provide authentication-related features such as account access, backup, restore, or sync functionality.
b) Documents and Scanned Content
Pocket ID allows you to scan and save documents, cards, or other personal records.
Depending on how you use the App, this may include:
- Images captured using your device camera
- Text extracted using OCR (Optical Character Recognition)
- Document names, categories, notes, and related metadata
By default, this information is stored locally on your device.
We do not upload your scanned documents, images, or extracted text to our servers unless you explicitly choose to use a backup, sync, export, or sharing feature.
c) Camera Access
If you use the scanning feature, the App will request access to your device’s camera in order to capture document or card images.
Camera access is used only for the scanning functionality inside the App.
d) Support Communications
If you contact us for support, we may collect the information you choose to provide, such as:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Details about your issue or request
We use information only as necessary to operate and improve Pocket ID.
This may include using your information to:
- Provide and maintain the App’s core features
- Enable login, authentication, backup, restore, or sync features
- Store and organize your documents and scanned content
- Process scanned images and extracted text
- Improve app functionality and usability
- Respond to customer support requests
- Comply with legal obligations when required
We do not sell your personal information.
3. How Your Data Is StoredPocket ID is designed to store your content locally on your device by default.
This means that your saved documents, scans, extracted text, and related information generally remain on your phone or tablet unless you choose to use features that involve backup, sync, export, or sharing.
If you enable optional cloud-related features, your data may be stored or processed by third-party services you choose or authorize.
4. Cloud Backup, Sync, and Restore (Optional)Pocket ID may offer optional backup, sync, or restore features.
If you choose to use these features:
- certain account information and/or app data may be associated with your signed-in account
- your data may be processed or stored through third-party services used to provide those features
You control whether or not to use these features.
If cloud backup or sync is not enabled, your data generally remains only on your device.
5. Sharing of InformationWe do not share, sell, rent, or trade your personal information or document content with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
We may share limited information only in the following situations:
a) With Your Consent
If you explicitly choose to share, export, back up, or sync content.
b) With Service Providers
We may use trusted third-party providers to support certain app functions such as:
- authentication
- app hosting or infrastructure
- cloud backup or sync
- app distribution and platform services
These providers may process limited data only as needed to provide their services and according to their own privacy policies.
c) For Legal Reasons
We may disclose information if required to do so by law or if we believe disclosure is necessary to:
- comply with a legal obligation
- protect our rights
- investigate fraud or misuse
- protect users or the public
Pocket ID may rely on third-party services to provide some features. Depending on how the App is configured, these may include services such as:
- Google Sign-In
- Supabase Auth
- Google Play Services
- Apple platform services
- Expo
These third-party providers may collect or process limited information in accordance with their own privacy policies.
We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you use through the App.
7. Data RetentionWe retain information only for as long as necessary to provide the App and its features.
Locally Stored Data
Most content you create in Pocket ID remains on your device until you:
- delete it manually inside the App
- clear the App’s storage
- uninstall the App
Account or Backup-Related Data
If you use account, sync, or backup features, some related data may be retained for as long as your account or backup remains active, unless you request deletion where applicable.
Support Data
Support requests may be retained for a limited period to help us respond to inquiries and improve support quality.
8. Your Choices and ControlsYou control how you use Pocket ID and what information you provide.
You may choose to:
- use the App without signing in (where supported)
- deny camera permission (though scanning features may not work)
- avoid using backup or sync features
- delete your saved content at any time
- uninstall the App to remove locally stored data from your device
If the App provides account-related features, you may also be able to request deletion of associated account data.
9. Data SecurityWe take reasonable technical and organizational measures to help protect your information.
These measures may include:
- secure app architecture
- protected local storage
- secure authentication systems
- third-party infrastructure safeguards where applicable
However, no method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Children’s PrivacyPocket ID is not intended for children under the age of 13.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to remove it where possible.
11. International UseIf you use Pocket ID from outside the country where our services or service providers are based, your information may be processed in other countries where applicable third-party providers operate.
By using the App, you understand that such processing may occur in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
12. Changes to This Privacy PolicyWe may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.
If we make changes, we will update the Effective Date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes become effective means you accept the updated Privacy Policy.
